I think my love of painting developed
from my desire to capture the beauty and mystery of the things I see
around me and my love of the great outdoors.
My alternative life as a landscape designer has, I
feel, also played it's part, with it's requisite attention to detail and
need to achieve balance and harmony.
After moving to Florida from the picturesque Sussex countryside in Southern England
I turned my attention to painting by joining an art class at my local center for the
arts and found myself 'truly smitten', I find myself losing track of time and totally immersed in my subject.
My
principal medium is acrylic on canvas.
My inspiration is taken largely
from places that I have visited and experienced, no shortage of these
are to be found in Florida with so many natural wonders, perfect
sunsets and an abundance of wildlife and water. Then the contrasts
are so much greater when visiting spectacular mountainous locations such
as the Grand Teton's and Yellowstone or even a small and pretty fishing
port in Maine.
Other subjects that I have enjoyed painting include historic and
national monuments, wildlife and still life, not to mention a
never ending supply of suggestions and photographs from family and friends,
so there is always a challenge to relish.
I can not imagine ever being bored with my painting, it's so
satisfying to create something that I and others can enjoy for many
years to come.
